Romans 10:17 (KJV)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Matthew 11:15 (KJV)
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Jesus said the same thing He said in Matthew 11:15, in Matthew 13:9, Mark 4:23, Mark 7:16 and many other places in the gospels.
The people He was teaching had ears so let us look deeper at this question of hearing!
Obviously, Jesus was teaching about hearing more than the sounds and words. He was teaching that we need to listen with ears that are tuned to the spiritual realm.
We are Spirit, Soul and Body. It is our Spirit that needs to be alert to hear. Our Spiritual ears need to be active!
Hebrews 5:11 (KJV)
Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
Matthew 13:23 (KJV)
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Let us consider how we get from dull of hearing to good ground!
Romans 10:17 at the beginning of these thoughts tells us that “Faith cometh by Hearing”. But all of us know or experience that just letting the word touch our ears does not actually change a person.
I believe this phrase is saying” Faith cometh by opening up our hearts and receiving what we are hearing as truth in our Spirits”.
How? The second phrase tells us: “and Hearing by the word of God”.
This phrase is saying to me: “hearing with my Spirit comes by meditating on the words of truth given to us in the Bible”.
Hosea 10:12 (KJV)
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
Fallow means: left untilled or unsown.
The word is telling us to break up the hard heart that is to disinterested or to busy to meditate on the truth that when we allow the Holy Spirit to examine us deep inside and remove the rocks of confusion and the weeds of distraction or break up the ground hardened by the cares or hurts of life, is to get our hearts ready to receive and perceive what the Spirit is saying through the words read or preached or taught from the Bible.
Then when we hear the word, we hear with our Spiritual ears, and the word takes root in good ground and we bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
Matthew 13:7-8 (KJV)
But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
It is when our heart is good ground that we can have “ears (of the spirit) to hear”, the truths that set us free from the deception of satan and the pull of the worlds systems!
Faith then comes as we receive and perceive that “with God all things are possible” and that Jesus sacrifice gives us dominion and authority over all that the enemy may try to bring. Faith understands that God will do all He said He would do and that we can decree and declare what His word says, knowing He will answer.
When our heart is good ground, then consistently reading, studying, and HEARING the word builds up trust in us so that we are full of Faith.
As you have time in the word each day, you may not feel the Faith growing, just as exercising daily you may not feel different. But just as exercise is helping your body, the word is growing your Faith.
Do you desire mountain moving Faith or even just Faith to get from day to day?
(1) Break up the fallow ground of your heart by allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal and heal all the hard, rocky, and weedy places.
(2) Ask God to reveal his meanings as you read or hear the word.
(3) Meditate on the word that you read or hear and let it get deep in your Spirit!
(4) Continue a daily time in the word and meditation on it.
You will then find that you are filled with “Faith that comes by Hearing”!

Thank you, Father, for helping each of us to hear with our Spirits so that we walk in Faith! In Jesus name I pray. Amen
