Me-Maw Thoughts

After surgery in the hospital, I received a beautiful container of Flowers! After I came home someone brought by another container and late last week, I received another.
They brightened my day, my hospital room and house and encouraged me and gave me joy! Each flower shown with vibrant color and the combination of colors showed the glories of Gods variety of beauty He created for us!
But alas, the first ones wilted, died, and had to be disposed of. The second ones are still surviving but are beginning to fade and will soon meet the same fate. The last ones are still looking great, but it is only a matter of time before they to will have to be destroyed.
On the other hand, we see flowers growing in flower gardens, on bushes, or in yards that though they may lose their vibrance through certain season will bloom when it is time and beautify the world around them. These live on year after year!
Why? Because they have roots planted deep in the soil where they draw life, season after season. They stand the test of time and even in a yard all grown up with weeds, thorns and bristles you may see a flower of beauty, created by the Lord God Almighty push up through the junk to shine.
As believers in the Lord Jesus our roots should be planted deep in the soil of our relationship with Him and be drawing the water of the life giving, refreshing word of God through those roots!
Psalm 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
When we delight and meditate on God’s Word, our roots grow deep and strong and we bring forth the fruit of the spirit that is within us and we bloom in our season, and we are blessed.
Through the good and the bad of life we stand strong because our roots are deep, steadfast, and sure and we are unmovable.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
If our roots grow deep, we will not be moved by every negative thing around us. We will not look at the march of the enemy but will know who we believe in and Trust Him in every situation and stand firm in the power of His might!
Acts 20:24 (KJV)
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
However, if we are rootless and temporarily draw water from around us, we will soon fade and whither. We may be rejoicing on the outside, say all the right things and even bring joy to those around us. But this is temporary, and we sway with the situation in our life and are moved to despair when we observe the evil in this world!
Those whose roots do not grow deep are on the mountain top today and in the valley tomorrow. They show beauty in the lord and then are wilted and down!
A line in an old hymn says, “The things of this earth grow strangely dim, in the light of His Glory and Grace”!
When our roots are strong, we look at everything with an eternal perspective!
We must keep our roots strong in the Lord by not only reading the Word but letting the Word read us. Meditate on what it means in our life, our situation! We also need to keep our relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ vibrant and growing, and fellowship with other believers and be planted in the house of the Lord!
Psalm 92:12-13 (KJV)
12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.
To truly make a difference in our world and those around us we must have roots that reach deep in the word and be planted in His house and live with an eternal perspective!

Father, in Jesus’ name I come and ask you to stir up within each of us the desire for our roots to grow deeper and deeper. Let us mediate on you and may our influence on those around us point them to the Cross of Calvary, where we were set free from the bondage of the enemy. May each of us open our spirits to receive truth! Amen!
Check your roots! Love, MeMaw
