“LIGHT”

“The home is a lighthouse which has the lamp of God on the table and the light of Christ in the window, to give guidance to those who wander in darkness.”           Henry Riesche

I have no idea who Henry Riesche is, but this quote indicates so much more than just a place of physical living!

When you hear the word home, what does it bring to your mind?

To a baseball player it might suggest crossing that last base called home!

To a soldier in a foreign country maybe they think of America where freedom is the accepted normal!

To the tired traveler it is the place they have set up housekeeping and have their stuff, and to the wayward one it is a place where they come expecting a joyous welcome!

Dorothy in the wizard of us reminds us simply that “There is no place like home!”

We have all heard:

“Be it ever so humble there is no place like home!”

Or “Home is where the heart is!”

Whether you live in an apartment, shack, small house, medium or large house, it can be a place or it can be a home!

Regardless of the size or contents, a place is just a place until the Love and acceptance and warmth that comes from the Lord God above, dwells there!

Yes, there are homes that are filled with the only kind of love we can give without Jesus flowing through us and some seem to be happy, but oh, when a house is filled with the love of Jesus Christ and the presence of people who care about each other we can have the kind of home God intended.

Whether you are single, a couple, a single parent family, a two-parent family, a blended family, or several generations in one house, you can make your house a home by allowing Jesus Christ to reign and His Love to abide there, and in ourselves.

Thomas Kinkade is called the “Painter of Light”. His light infused paintings of houses with light streaming from windows, and light all in nature, affirms the basic values of family, Faith in God, and beauty, came from the experience he had as a child.

Walking home each day he would see the welcome lights from the houses he was passing. It was like an invitation to something good!

Our children will learn more from what happens in our homes than in any other place. They may learn facts and figures in schools and colleges but what we live out everyday will show them what is really important!

May we as parents, grandparents, friends, etc. show them Jesus Love!

I remember as a young girl, when either of my parents walked in the door, I felt the warmth of home. I felt that all was right with the world. I saw them face to face and knew Love abounded!

God has prepared for those who trust in what Jesus Christ paid for on the cross, a home of light like no other. We can look forward to the beauty and perfection of that home. But most important we will see Jesus, our Savior face to face.

But may I tell you not only can you have a home of Love and acceptance here, but you can have the presence of Jesus in your heart so fully that you are home anywhere!

If home is where the heart is and our heart is fixed on our Savior, then we can be home and feel the love of home anywhere.

And as Thomas Kinkade saw light spilling from windows and was inspired to paint light into his work, the light of the love of Jesus can inspire others to commit to that light and to let it fill their house and make it a home.

Matthew 5:14 (KJV)
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Psalm 36:9 (KJV)
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

May the light of Jesus shine through each of our homes to draw others to the truth of His Love!

Father, I come in the precious name of Jesus, and thank you for the light of the truth of your word that sets us free to be all we are created to be! Touch each of us to let our light shine through our lives, our homes and all we do. May we make our homes a place of refuge for the hurting, encouragement for the discouraged, and a place of rest for the weary! You give us direction and in you is light and true life! May each of us let you reign in our heart and life. We are your ambassadors! May we be strong contenders for Truth! Amen!

Love, MeMaw!
